The school will be held at the Flamingo Hotel. Set in a natural park amidst
pine, eucalyptus and palm trees, the Flamingo faces onto the beautiful
white sandy beach of Santa Margherita di Pula. Attendees will stay at
the Flamingo Hotel or at its sister hotel, the Hotel Mare Pineta. Hotel Mare
Pineta is connected to the Flamingo via a private pathway through the park.
S. Margherita di Pula is located in the South of Sardinia, about 40 km from Elmas airport (Cagliari). Elmas airport is linked to the main Italian cities and to several major European capitals by various daily flights. We will provide a (free) bus service from Elmas Cagliari airport to the school venue on Sunday Sept 5th at 18:00 (with a stop at the Cagliari railway station at 18:20), and from the school venue to the airport on Friday Sept 10th at 14:00. Alternatively, S. Margherita di Pula can be reached by public bus from the bus station of Cagliari, which is located in P.zza Matteotti. There is a shuttle service from Elmas airport to P.zza Matteotti that takes 15 minutes and runs every 30 min. The journey Cagliari-Hotel Flamingo takes 1 hour (frequency: 30 minutes and ticket "Fascia 7"). A taxi ride from Elmas airport to the school costs approximately 60 EUR and you can ask the hotel to reserve a ride in advance. If you come by car, drive from Cagliari on the route 195 and, after 33.800 km, take the road for Hotel Flamingo on the left.
There will be a welcome cocktail on Sunday evening at the Flamingo hotel. On Wednesday afternoon, an excursion to the archaeological site of Nora is planned. The site has Carthaginian as well as Roman remains. After a period of Roman prosperity there was a decline, and in the 3rd century AD, the sea in a natural disaster engulfed the city. Still visible today are the remains of a Carthaginian warehouse, and various Roman buildings, including baths with splendid mosaics and a theater, almost completely intact, dating from the height of the empire. Some buildings can also be seen under the water. After the visit, a stop to a nice beach is also planned. These events are open to all participants.
The local currency is Euro (EUR). The current exchange rate is approximately: 1 EUR = 1.2 USD.

Free first aid and hospital services are available to all citizens of the European Union who have a special form (E111) issued by the health authority of the relevant country. Visitors from other countries are advised to take out special insurance for the duration of the trip, to avoid the cost of possible medical treatment. North American visitors may find that reimbursement of medical expenses incurred abroad is covered by their private insurance. Medicines can only be obtained from pharmacies ("Farmacia," marked by a green or red cross) which are usually open from 8:30 to 13:00 and from 16:30 to 20:00. At night and on public holidays only some pharmacies are open; however, you can find a list of those open on the doors of those which are closed.
