The popularity and adoption of XML for data integration and exchange across the Internet has dramatically increased in the past few years. As more and more organizations employ XML within their information management and exchange strategies, classical data management issues arise and new challenges appear. On the one hand, XML data need to be efficiently stored, retrieved, queried, indexed and manipulated. On the other hand, methods and tools for effectively integrating data from various sources, for sharing data across different tasks, for exchanging data between multiple organizations, need to be defined. The seventh EDBT Summer school will focus on theoretical and practical issues related to the management of XML data.
